Goodbye Summer

Looks like Autumn is here! Now that Summertime has come to an end and the new season of colourful trees, blankets and hot chocolate is upon us, I thought I would reflect back over my Summer and share with you what I got up to!

As you’ve almost definitely seen from my influx of photos on Instagram, we visited the B-E-A-UTIFUL city of Venice back in June. This city. Oh my. This city was the most beautiful and picturesque place I have ever been, with one canal after the other and stunning historical buildings at every turn. Venice is somewhere I think everyone should visit at least once. It’s a city like no other and will be forever in my heart.

Of course you can’t really experience Summer unless you’ve taken a million trips to the beach on those hot Summer days! My favourite beach to visit is Overstrand in Norfolk. It’s the only beach I visit (unless I want chips and penny machines in which case we go to Cromer!) because of its tranquility and beauty. On those perfect Summer nights, when the sky is clear, the sunset from Overstrand looking towards Cromer pier is spectacular. When the wind turns a little chilly and you have a little bonfire going and the sound of the waves breaking… Oh it’s just perfect!

We spent the latter part of our Summer visiting Amsterdam! With the city’s wild reputation, I had no idea what to expect, apart from the smell of weed and prostitutes wearing next to nothing in street windows… Yep that was pretty much it actually. Just kidding! Amsterdam is SO MUCH MORE than that. You actually get used to the smell pretty quickly and the women in the windows are only on the streets which start with the red lamp in the road (you’ll see what I mean when you visit). The atmosphere is nothing like in the UK. Everyone there is so chilled out, happy and carefree (probably because of the drugs) but honestly it was amazing! We were in the city for 4 nights/5 days and not once did we encounter any antisocial behaviour (except for the couple above us in our hotel room but that’s another story… not one for the blog I assure you!!) Amsterdam was surprisingly a very romantic city with all of the canals and beautiful flowers everywhere. I immediately fell in love with the tall buildings and spent the whole time wishing we could stay and live in one ourselves!

So that pretty much sums up what I got up to this Summer. I hope you all had a wonderful Summer and I’d love to hear where you visited to give me ideas for 2018!

Love always,
Gemma
